In Topic, Year 5 have been researching all about Johannesburg, as it is one of the settings in our key text this term. What are the most interesting facts you can find out about Jo'burg?
There is only one other city on the continent that is bigger than Joburg, and that is the bustling metropolis of Cairo in Egypt. Johannesburg is the second biggest city on Africa.
I know that a very long time ago Johannesburg was an extremely racis country so black an white people were separated from doing everything even sitting on a bench!!
Johannesburg is rated as the 7th most dangerous city in the world. It has a population of 8.7 million people. Black and white people were seperated from each other. It is the only city not built on river or anything and biggest.
The thing I find intresting is that it is called the city of gold. I never knew that and it is a fascinating fact. I think it was called this because there was a lot of gold and diamonds in the country.
Johannesburg or also know as Egoli was known for its gold, and Egoli is also translated to City Of Gold. The book we're reading has also showed me that before the city of Jo'Burg was calm the white people took over the city,This city was also founded Over 120 years ago.In the book Journey to Johannesburg The character Grace said that there was a time of fire as she called it, That the school teachers taught them what only the white government wanted them to know.
Jo burg is ritch because of all of the gold and diamonds and what I know is that the racism in Africa ruins the country because a black person can't sit on the bench.
Johannesburg was took over by England since it had a lot of gold and diamonds but before this the Afrikanns and England soldiers had a big war just for diamond and gold.Since Johannesburg was tooked over by England they had to live with apartheid so black people and white people were not allowed to be married and families had to be separated and black people sat on the grass and white people sat on the bench.
Now that Nelson Mandela is president of Johannesburg he got rid of apartheid allowing blacks to sit on benches and whites.Since Nelson Mandela got rid of apartheid blacks and whites were allowed to get married.
It has 1 million more People than London and with the population of 8.7 million people
