Building the Argo

Now that you have built your own model of the Argo using a variety of recycled materials, write a paragraph explaining how you did it.

Then answer the following questions:

1. Would you change your design if you built it again?
(What would you do and would you need any different materials?)
2. If you were to judge the ships that everyone built, how would you do this?
(What criteria would you use?)

  1. I built my Argonaut ship with an egg box, some plastic straws and some fabric. Firstly, I cut the egg box in half to make sure it was the right size. Then I started thinking about the sail. I thought about the wind and since it is winter, I needed something stable to hold the boat up. So I used a few plastic straws and some fabric.

    1. Yes, I would make some changes. I would add something waterproof, like tin foil but it will be able to stand up tall so no water could get through if a storm was about.
    2. I would put them in a row and have a good look at them so they have the right properties. I would judge them on stability, and if they float.

  2. I made it by using a used emty cookie case and used that for the base of the ship and used a butter lid to use it for the glass so when it's sunny it would deflect on the lid and so they can see and i tied bubble rap at the back of the boat so when it's raining i can untie it and put it on top of the boat and for the searing wheel i used a bottle lid.

  3. if i was going to built it again i would have use the same plastic cover that i used to make float on the water and would put the plastic straws so they can row it.Then i will put the fabric over the plastic to cover it and the fabric pole and then cut out a fabric cover again then wrap it around the fabric pole then put the blue circles on the sides on les it sinks under the water

  5. what I built the argo out of is plastic that looks like a rectangle for walking on the argo and we use straws for the pole then we got the sail out of fabrick and then we put the straws for the oars and for the weight so it won't tip over when it is sailing we also made the weight of a little egg box so the bigger the weight is the easer it won't tip over the water then we got the sterring wheel out of a bottle lid then we stuck it on the front of the argo we tape it the sterring wheel really hard so it doesn't fall of

  6. i would change my design because we did not have much materials and we did not do i good flag i would need diffrent materials so i can improve my boat better and try make close as possible to make it look like the argo ship and try my best. to be continued

  7. if I wanted to change my design I would disassemble the part I want to change and do it again. I would need different materials because some materials help the boat float. I would judge it by strongest materials to weakest. to be continued.

  8. If i was to build a second boat i would have a plastic bottom and three sails to be continued......

  9. I made my argo with an egg box I used.to be continued.

  10. I would change my design if I built it again because if I wanted to do what I did last time I couldn't do it because I will definately forget what I made. What I would do is make it like an real Ancient Greek ship and I would need different materials like wood and fabric. If I judged the ships that everyone built I would do this by dropping people of a boat then come back and take another. The criteria that I would use is
    To be continued...

  11. Me and my partner made a boat out of the materials on the table. We used a egg box for the base of the boat, then we used the straws sticks then on top of that there was a little flag witch was made out of fabric. The wind produces
air and the fabric will get the the wind and carry on the water and might flout. to be continued.

  13. 1. first I built my Argo with a plastic yogurt jar.2. Then I put the milk bottle under the
clothes on top to make a Greek flag . The reason I put a bottle to make it float.

  14. l build argonaut ship with an plastic straws and some of box and fabric firstly l will cut box into half and put put plastic into the ship check it is the right size to put it on the ship. and l will put a little of more box and
l will put fabric on top of the ship plastic straws on top of the ship. 1. yes l would make so changes l would add some more on it. 2.l would put them into the so l can test it out.

  15. 1. I will make some changes to my Argo so it could protect itself from waves and storms. If it had shelter for when it starts to rain they won't have to worry about getting wet. If there's a storm I would build the ship with a lot of layers so when the lightning hits the boat there will be another layer so the ship doesn't fall apart.

    2. I would judge them by testing how they float and how far it can go. To make it seem like it's actually the Argo traveling I would use a hair dryer as the wind to make it go forward. Next I would see how long it takes for it to sink. After I would put a flag where it sank and the one that went the fares would be the best boat.

  16. If i was making a argonaut ship again i would add a little bit more detail.I would also put some decorations to it and it will look so much different to my first one.I would you's some more brown clothes so it looks like wood and it could be the sail.I would need some different materials like some different type of of clothes and some more milk bottles. If i was a judge i would see hwo was adding the most detail to there argo ships.

I built my Argonaut ship with a milk bottle, fabric, cardboard, straws and tape. I would of change it because it to make sore that it is a 100 percent waterproof. If I had to pick the best one, I would check it by seeing which one floated of the longest, so it doesn't sink if something happens like a storm. I would also check it by making sore it by checking which one looked the most oldest because in Greek they had wood boats.

  20. I b uilt my Argo with a bleach bottle and my group cut the inside to put dingys inside the bottle. I used fabric for the sail and decorated it with drawings and patches to show that it has been in war . The boat was on fire we used orange paper to make fire the boat had tears in the fabric for a dramatic effect and it said boys rule at the back.

  21. I built my Argo boat out of a plastic bottles, long straws, clothes, carbored, i put the clothes in a right angle and i cut six half,s of the straws into three half,s i put one of the three half,s in the middle and sticked it down to piece of the clothe . I used some plastic in the middle for plastic seats and i put the other half of the straws i put it on the side of the plastic seats to hold it up .

If i built another Argo i would change some things . I would use some wood if i could

I would put them under water and test them if they would sink .

  22. I built my argonaut ship with a biskit box and cut holls throu the midor so we kode posh the stiks thro and then we got a stic and drod the flag then we stuk it to getheer then we got a egg box and stok it on the botom of the ship and then we pot are flag in the mid or of the egg box. Then we drod a dragon with huth of the egg box we pot a lid for the dragons nose and we atuk it on the frunt of the ship and then we adid a tale at the bake of the ship we made the taorl by gating a stik and bent it and pot same tap on it so it dos not bed bak haw it wose and mad a stiring will and pot same big lis on the botom so it can flot on the woter and on the lids we pot same paiper on it so it can halpit flote not sike and we pot same fabric on the egg box so it dos not came of or get wet wille it is going .

  23. I built my Argo with teamwork, creativity, power and friendship. My boat was very good because my emotions and my partner's emotions were good.My boat had a long black bottom made out of a biscuit carton, and had a very long sail which the Greeks called oar's.Me and my partner's ideas got mixed together and we made a beautiful boat. 1.yes i would improve my boat to make it more better what I would improve is my sail it is way to long for it to sail. 2.No I would not add any more materials. 3.I would judge the boats by testing what boat could float.

  24. I built my Argonaut ship With a straws so we pot the straws at the bottom because if we pot it at the bottom then it can float so when we finished making it to float i covered the hole to make it water proof. When i was raping it around to make it water proof i checked to make sure that it was big so it can not sink in side the water.1 i will change my boat and make more bigger so it can be strong and not fail and sink in the water.2 i will judge there ship by pooting it in the water.

  25. I built my boat with plastic for the base and I put the butter lid for so when it's sunny it would deflect on the lid so it won't stop them from seeing and for the steering wheel I used a bottle lid and so when its raining I used selatape and stuck the bubble rap so when it rating just pull it up..

  26. So if you are making a boat you need to make it water proof And to do that you need to have the right material also to make it float on water and what I used to make my boat is something water proof so if you have a egg box and a lid the lid is water proof so stick the lid to the bottom of the
Egg box and to power it you might want to make a sail so the wind could blow it across the see

  27. 1 if I wanted to rebuild a part of my boat I would de tach it and put two bottles at the side so it could float.
2 I would design it much beter than it is. And I should more focus on how it is going to float.

  28. I would deside between strongest to weakest materials because if you are on a boat, it's important to have a strong boat

  29. my boat is to heavy i want to change it i need to put water proof on top and shouldnt be to long otherwise it it will fall down. you shouldnt put to much stuff in the boat otherwise it will sink,at the bottom of the boat it should be strait otherwise the boat wouldnt go strait.
