Even though they get food and drinks and a home they still do not like working for them some of the people liked working for them because they got food and drinks and a home.

On one hand is that the workhouse is that, the clothes don't have stains on it because it's made from dark coarse material.
    Against
On the other hand it's bad because it's made to be uncomftable and unmarried, pregnant women have to wear red dresses.

  6. For clothes

Women wore shift dresses with an apron. While men wore shirts striped with cotten and braces, cap
Even though the clothing is uncomfatable they got use to it

  7. Life in a workhouse was intended to be harsh, to deter the able-bodied poor and to ensure that only the truly destitute would apply that's the negative. The positive thing is that they had food and shelter for free.

  8. Victorian food were disgusting they ate things that would never give them a stable diet such as boiled meat potatoes bread and cheese. For pudding they have broth rice pudding and they would get three meals a day there uniforms were made to be uncomftable pregnant women whith kids that have no husband wore red clothe so they could feel ashamed they would wear black clothes because if they wore white clothes it would really be obvious to see.

  9. Victorians workhouses had good side as well as bad sides.

  10. School in the workhouse in the workhouse was very limited especially for the girls. Boys learnt the 3 R's which were reading, writing and arithmetic. Some would argue that children would not get enough education because of there busy schedule. However others would argue that they get to go to school for free because the Victoria time schools were very expensive

  11. The work house was very hard because of jobs on the other hand they have job however they did not get paid.We are very lucky because most of us would have been in the workhouse because we are not in the Victorian most of us are in school the first work house was opened in 1652 Exeter . The jobs were very harsh the men had to break stones women had to scrub. Floor.an amount of people took it as slavery as I told you they don't get paid even though you didn't get paid you would leave the place as skillfull as you were.. The bad thing is that you get no brake.

  12. School life in a workhouse
School life now is amazing but if you were in workhouses you weren't that lucky. Children, men, and woman didn't have the best education as we have now in fact it was very unfair. The fact that boys learnt reading, writing, and maths while girls were taught basic jobs like kitchen duties and cleaning. It could be argued that girls needed a fair amount of education to help them with jobs for there life as an adult. Some might say that even though there are many reasons why school in workhouses were bad there are also good reasons school was free in workhouses while others had to pay expensive prices in addition the subjects that they learnt helped them for their life school.

  13. Food in a workhouse

In the Victorian times people didn't eat good food for example:Bread and cheese, broth, boiled meat. They had the same food ever week and swallowed down. But sometimes they got to eat potatoes only if they were lucky although the didn't have great food they had something to eat at least.Howere, it was not good for them because they had to swollow it down and it didn't have any vitamins.

A workhouse was a big building built for poor and homeless people to live and work in so that's kind of good because it stopped people from sleeping on the street. In the workhouse the children slept in a bed and had a roof over there heads so they did have shelter.

    Against
People that wasn't in the workhouse thought it was a form of slavery because they didn't get eny brakes and when they where having lunch they hade to eat in siclence and nearly all there food was boiled and they had the same food every day but at least there was no oil

  15. A Workhouse was a building for ill people, orphaned children, and disabled people to go and live/work when they have nowhere to stay. You may not believe this but people went there through their own will.Your fist reaction may be that this is the worst place you could imagine, but I think you've only heard one side of the story.

Jobs in the work house proved to be very difficult,if you did one tiny thing wrong you'd be punished. Some of the punishments were: having to to carry a basket of clothes on their head and if they dropped a single item they'd be whipped. The men's jobs were:breaking stones ,working in fields and gathering wheat. This women's jobs consisted of:sewing, cleaning floors, and cooking. These jobs helped thoughen them for future events. But these were also hated because the women were only learnt skills for being a maid

  16. Food
Even though this is the topic based on food it doesn't mean it was good. The food was Diluted, horrible and they had the same portion of and the same thing every day.On the one hand they were eating for free,on the other they were getting sick and weren't eating as much as they should have been.If you were in this situation, how would you feel?

    Jobs in the Workhouse
Work was hard in the workhouse. The men had to do heavy labour such as:Grinding corn, breaking stones, and chopping wood. The woman done kitchen which was very hard.At least they had shelter and food in exchange for them to have lived there. On the other hand, some people believed that this was a form of slavery as they were not paid though they did get provided with clothes aswell.

Food was regularly provided in the Workhouse. The had 3 meals a day and was kept the same. For breakfast, they had a type of porridge called gruel with broth and a side of bread and cheese. For dinner (which is lunch now) they had boiled me and if they had a garden, they would plant potatoes. For supper(which is dinner now) they had rice pudding and steamed suet pudding. It was good that they had 3 meals a day but one the other hand it was horrible because it was diluted!
