The elephant on the blog

Chulak charges money for people to write slogans on the White Elephant. Every letter of the alphabet, costs a different amount. The amount goes up 3 Rupees with every letter. For example: A = 1 Rupee, B = 4 Rupees, C= 7 Rupees, D = 10 Rupees, E = 13 Rupees, F = 16 Rupees and so on. 

The following four slogans were written on the side of the elephant:

Chang loves Lotus Blossom

Eat at the Golden Lantern 

Bangkok Wanderers for the Cup

Star of India Tandoori House 

Which is the most expensive slogan? 

Which slogan does Chulak make the least amount of money? 

Explain how you worked out your answer. 

Your challenge is to come up with your own slogan that costs under 1,000 Rupees. 

Then make up your own rule.

Next term we will be reading a book by Helen Cowcher about animals in a rainforest. 

We will also be studying the animals that live there and their habitats in our topic and science lessons. 

Tell me everything you already know about rainforests. Try to group your ideas into categories such as: climate. geography, plants, animals, insects and so on.

Up, up and away

After all the months of preparation and building excitement the big day had finally arrived. In unison, the balloons all took off into the air, leaving the cheering crowd far below, gasping at the magnificent spectacle.

A difficult journey lay ahead, and surely not all of the balloons would make it, but they had to try – the prize of £1,000,000 for the first crew to make it around the world was a great incentive …

Continue the story. Make sure you use a range of punctuation and try hard to make your writing interesting and believable. You might find it useful to think about the following questions:
How many balloons do you think are taking part in the race?

What do the crews have to do to win the race?
What does the winner receive?
What obstacles might they encounter along the way?
How many of the crews will make it around the world?
How do you think the crews would prepare for such a journey?
What are the most dangerous things that they might encounter?
But remember, your task is to write a story, not to just answer these questions.

Mercutio, a relative of Prince Escalus and neither a Capulet or Montague, has been invited to the ball at Lord and Lady Capulet's house. This was the ball where Count Paris attempts to win Juliet's heart. The night before Mercutio texts his close friend Romeo and asks him to come along,

What do you think they said in their texts?

How did he persuade Romeo to come along to the ball? What would have been the incentive?

Remember that both Mercutio and Romeo would understand the risks of a Montague attending a Capulet ball.
