Faces, edges and vertices

Different shapes have different numbers of faces, edges and vertices. 

Is there are relationship between these numbers? 

If you knew the number of faces and edges could you work out the number of vertices?

Write a diary entry for a day in the life of Juliet Capulet.

Serious sarnies

Pupil A and Pupil B each had two sandwiches of the same size.

Pupil A ate 1 and 1/4 of her sandwiches.

Pupil B ate 5/4 of his sandwiches.

Miss Godfrey said that Pupil B ate more because 5 is the biggest number.

Miss Diss said Pupil A ate more because she ate a whole sandwich.

X-factor

I know if a number is a multiple of 10 because it has a 0 in the units column. Therefore, I know that 10 is a factor of 476,910 because of the 0 in the ones column.

Clockwork

1. Pick any number on the clock face and then find the number opposite to it.

2. Then find the difference between the two numbers. For example, if you choose 1, then 7 is opposite. The difference between 1 and 7 is 6.

3. Do the same with a different number. What happens this time?

Record a couple of examples. Are you able to explain why this happens?

Tough times for the Tudors

Because there was no official police force during the Tudor times, the crime rate was very high. However, the punishments used to try to prevent crime were rather extreme! 

1. What were the most common crimes committed by the Tudors and what were the punishments for committing these crimes? 

2. What do you think about the punishments? Were they fair or too harsh? 

3. Were there any well known Tudors who were punished for their crimes? Which punishments did they face?

Spelling galore!

In light of the spelling bee last week, it got me thinking about how I learn to spell words that are particularly difficult.

For example, I know how to spell the word secretary because I imagine that a secretary keeps a secret.

or

I know how to spell embarrass because I imagine two red cheeks (2 x r) when I'm '2 shy' (2 x s).

On a digital 24 hour clock, at certain times, all the digits are consecutive (in counting order). You can count forwards or backwards. Look at the example below.
